Danger of Tattoo Ink

Many people have various questions in their mind regarding the safety concerns of tattooing and tattoo ink. However, there are several dangers associated with the ink used for tattooing and these mostly occur due to the usage of poor quality ink. These generally occur as the skin is injected into the deeper skin layers of a person and the following are a few dangers that are common in people.

A person may suffer from the following dangers of tattoo ink if proper method and a good quality ink is not used.

  • Allergic Reaction: This is a well known hazard as many people experience allergic reactions due to the pigments present in the inks used for tattooing. These reactions can show immediately for a few people and for a few of them it may take some time for the symptoms to show up. The signs of the reaction cannot be seen till the tattoo is completely carved. Light-colored and red inks are the most common colors that are responsible for causing this condition. Usage of colors which consist of allergic pigments cause severe blistering and swelling.
  • Toxic Carriers: This usually happens when the tattoo artist uses his/her own inks instead of purchasing the premixed inks. This powdered pigment when gets mixed with the liquid can act as a hazardous carrier. If the parlor maintains poor hygiene, then there are chances for the ink to act as toxic carriers. There are chances for the these carriers to lead to certain potential health risks when the artist injects them beneath the skin.
  • MRI Complications: Many people sporting tattoos have experienced several complications while undergoing an MRI. There are cases where people experience swelling and burning of the tattooed area during the procedure. Tattoos also interfered with original MRI image. This condition is mostly seen in people with facial tattoos or makeup tattoos.

All these above mentioned dangers of tattoo ink can be lowered by making sure that the tattoo parlor takes the necessary steps to keep the equipment and surroundings hygiene.
