Scabbing of Tattoos

Many people love to get a tattoo inked on their body but fail to take good care of it which can eventually lead to scabbing of tattoos. It is important to follow a few after care tips in order to prevent the tattoo from fading. One should take good care of the tattoo during the healing process in order to avoid scabbing and ruining. Read on to know the steps that will help in overcoming this condition.

Causes of Tattoo Scabbing
Scabbing of tattoos can occur due to several reasons and the most common reason being drying of the tattooed area. After tattooing, the tattoo artist may ask you to use an aftercare ointment or lotion in order to keep the area moist. This condition can also be caused if you fail to apply this lotion regularly. Excess application of the moisturizer can also lead to severe scabbing.

Make sure that you apply the moisturizer in moderate amounts at least twice in a day for two weeks continuously. There are chances for the tattoo to come off when the scab in that area becomes thin after healing period which is a natural process. However, your tattoo artist may agree to redo the design. Make sure that you avoid picking the scab as it can only end up worsening this condition.

How to Prevent?
There are several ways through which you can avoid scabbing of tattoos from recurring. One should follow certain preventive measures in order to prevent worsening of the condition. The following are a few steps that will help you overcome scabbing.

  • One should follow the aftercare instructions immediately after getting the tattoo.
  • Remove the bandage put by the tattoo artist after reaching home and then wash the area with water and antibacterial soap. Cleaning the area will help you remove the left over plasma that can lead to scabbing.
  • Make sure that you clean the area with your hands and not with a wash cloth or sponge in order to prevent scarring.
  • Put a new bandage as the tattooed area needs fresh air for proper healing.
  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes, as they can cause irritation further resulting in scabbing during healing period.
  • Make sure that you avoid wearing shoes, socks or gloves for the first few weeks if you have a tattoo on your feet and hands as this can result in fading of the tattoo color.
  • Take extra care during the first two weeks after tattooing as this time is very crucial. Wash your hands with an antibacterial soap before cleaning the tattooed area.
  • Avoid staying in shower for a longer period of time, at least for the first few weeks as it helps in preventing cabbing.

I hope that the above tips will be of great help in overcoming scabbing of tattoos, as a good aftercare will always help in preventing it from recurring. This also helps in keeping the tattoo look beautiful and attractive.
