New Tattoo Care – A Few Guidelines

1. Pay heed to your tattoo artist
If you have done your research and found a trusted tattoo artist, then he/she will give you detailed instructions. You should carefully follow those set of instructions to take good care of your new tattoo.

2. Leave the bandage to cover the new tattoo
The time varies on how long you should let the bandage on: this may be from 2 hours to even 24 hours. Don’t worry as your tattoo artist will ask you to follow a strict time frame. Avoid taking out the bandage before the required time has lapsed. Don’t be tempted to flaunt you new tattoo before time. Learn to be patient!

3. Before removing the bandage, soak it with warm water
If the bandage covering your new tattoo design is stuck and is not coming out easily, then you can soak it in lukewarm water. This is optional.

4. Wash the New Tattoo
After removing the bandage, you should wash your new tattoo design. Most of the tattoo artists suggest using lukewarm water and antimicrobial soap or mild, liquid antibacterial soap. Use your hands and carefully wash all blood traces. It should not form as scab. You should pat dry the tattoo with a paper towel or a clean towel.

5. Apply ointment
After washing the tattoo design, you should carefully apply an ointment for 2 to 3 days. These last longer than lotions. Hence, you don’t have to apply again and again. This also lessens the amount of rubbing. But avoid applying more. Carefully apply a thin layer of ointment. Repeat the application twice in a day.
